CIC Relief

The ability of Motegrity to relieve the infrequency of bowel movements was studied in six clinical trials of 12-week duration (Studies 1-5) and 24-week duration (Study 6) with 2,484 adults living with Chronic Idiopathic Constipation (CIC). About 3 in 4 were women, with an average age of 47 (ranging from 17 to 95). Many had been living with symptoms of CIC for years. While your results may vary, here's how Motegrity was shown to help:

It's about having ‘complete’ trips more often

If you've lived with CIC, you may know how difficult getting that “complete” feeling can be when it comes to your complete spontaneous bowel movements (BMs). During 12-week studies, Motegrity was shown to help normalize the number of complete spontaneous BMs per week for adults living with CIC (and by normalize, we mean at least 3 complete spontaneous BMs per week on average).

Relief held steady through 12-week studies

Motegrity improved the number of complete spontaneous BMs per week as early as week 1. And what's more? This improvement was maintained through week 12 (which was the length of the studies).

And if you're tired of waiting:

People who started Motegrity had their first complete spontaneous BM from 7 to 15 days sooner, on average, than those taking a placebo — a pill with no active ingredient (ranged from 1.4 to 4.7 days compared with 9.1 to 20.6 days).

Possible Side Effects

The safety profile of Motegrity was studied in six clinical trials involving more than 2,500 adults with CIC, about half of whom received Motegrity. Motegrity may cause serious side effects, including: unusual changes in mood or behavior, thoughts of hurting yourself, trying to hurt yourself, or suicide. Stop taking Motegrity right away and tell your healthcare provider immediately if your depression gets worse, you feel sad, hopeless or begin to have thoughts of suicide, thoughts of hurting yourself or you have tried to hurt yourself or if you develop new depression.

The most common side effects of Motegrity include: headache, stomach area (abdominal) pain or bloating, nausea, diarrhea, dizziness, vomiting, gas and fatigue. If reported, diarrhea or headache typically occurred within the first week of treatment and resolved within a few days of continued use.

These are not all the possible side effects of Motegrity. Call your doctor for medical advice about side effects.

Your doctor can tell you more about Motegrity. Not sure how to ask?

Once-Daily
Dosing

1 tablet a day

With or without food

Busy schedule?

There's no need to complicate things with Motegrity.

Just one tablet a day. Anytime. With or without food. And of course, always follow your doctor's specific instructions — if you have kidney problems, your doctor may give you a lower dose of Motegrity.

Staying on track!

Motegrity was shown to be effective when taken once daily, so it's very important to take it every day as prescribed — not just on days when you are experiencing symptoms.

Store your Motegrity properly

  • Motegrity should stay in its original container (it protects from moisture)
  • Store the container at room temperature (68°F to 77°F)
  • Keep Motegrity and all medicines out of the reach of children

About CIC, Motegrity, and Savings & Support

Chronic Idiopathic Constipation (CIC)

  • CIC is a bowel condition with symptoms of lumpy or hard stools, straining, and difficult, infrequent or incomplete bowel movements. Women are more likely to get it than men, and the chances of getting it increase with age and lower calorie intake.

To learn more about CIC, including its symptoms and associated risk factors, click here.

  • If you're unsure about how to approach your doctor about CIC, use this handy tool to help guide you through the conversation.

Motegrity® (prucalopride)

  • Motegrity targets a receptor in your colon involved in natural movements of the colon muscle (known as peristalsis). You can learn more about how Motegrity works by clicking here.

  • While your results may vary, people who started Motegrity in clinical studies had their first complete spontaneous bowel movement within 1.4 to 4.7 days, compared with 9.1 to 20.6 days for people taking placebo. Learn more about the results and what to expect here.

  • While everyone's body is different, improvements on weekly complete spontaneous BMs were maintained through the 12-week clinical studies. Learn more about the results and what to expect here.
